Answer and you can see the opinion of other locals like you
When you think of Portobello, images of canals and students pop into the mind. The reality is a mix of these two and so much more. The name itself comes from the Irish Cuan Aoibhinn – meaning 'beautiful harbour' and that exactly what the area is, beautiful.
A small suburb south of the city of Dublin, Portobello is made for those that don’t require cars to get around. The location gives you easy access to the City, ensuring short walks home from trendy areas around Dawson St and George's St. It’s city living without being in the City. Portobello is a cosmopolitan neighbourhood with some fantastic walkways along the canal, excellent local eateries (the area has become a haven for those that love brunch) and nice bars. For those that crave activities, museums and gyms will ensure the mind and body are sated while for those with kids, what better way to spend an afternoon then feeding Swans down by the water.
